Once each of the foot lengths was laid out we bundled the lines together, securing them to one another with plastic zip ties at 10 foot intervals. Though the poly pipe was somewhat rigid, fortunately we managed to stage it for installation without putting any kinks in it. Next, Patrick connected the pipe, the wire and the rope to our Sun Pumps submersible pump. They look so complicated! That is until you understand how they work. There are a couple of things to be wary of. In the first place, as it is now wired, it doesn’t follow Code. A single section of the switch is being used to break one side of the line feeding the pump. Both wires should be red, or both should be black, depending on which side of the line the switch is breaking. They shouldn’t be red and black. That would be a short circuit if Code wiring practice were being followed. Second, confirm that the currently unused terminals on the switch work the same way as the currently used terminals.
They should, but they might work backwards, ie one set may close on pressure fall while the other set may open on pressure fall. If that’s the case, the diagram I sent you won’t work.

Small residential RO units will theoretically operate on very low pressure–down to 35 psi, according to some membrane makers–but the reality is, you won’t get a lot of water and the product water quality will be compromised if the unit runs below 45 psi.
